THE DISTINCTION

Not therapy.
Not coaching.

The work beneath both.

You may recognise the pattern

Outer authority does not always resolve the inner pattern.

You may be accomplished, thoughtful and highly capable—yet find that under pressure, familiar ways of responding return.

  • A decision repeatedly feels more difficult than it should, despite having every fact you need.
  • A relationship dynamic persists despite insight—you can name the pattern, and it still runs the room.
  • The authority you project outwardly does not always match what you experience inwardly.

These are not necessarily failures of competence. They may be signs that an unconscious pattern is still organising how you lead, choose and relate.

The Framework

The Psychology of

Self-Leadership™

Sitting at the confluence of three foundational disciplines.

I

Foundation

Jungian Depth
Psychology

Working with unconscious archetypes, shadow material and the recurring patterns that quietly organise authority.

In the boardroom: the recurring conflict with a specific colleague or board member finally resolves—because you're no longer negotiating with your own projection.

II

Grounding

Social Neuroscience

Understanding how the nervous system perceives threat and safety when responsibility, scrutiny and consequence converge.

In the boardroom: you stay regulated under hostile questioning instead of defending, over-explaining, or shutting down.

III

Capacity

Contemplative Practice

Sustaining presence under pressure and strengthening the capacity to remain the Observer when conditions become chaotic.

In the boardroom: you can sit with an unresolved, high-stakes decision without forcing premature closure just to relieve your own discomfort.

These are not necessarily failures of competence. They may be signs that an unconscious pattern is still organising how you lead, choose and relate.

Recognition · Where Serious Work Begins

You can have built a life of consequence and still recognise that an old pattern is shaping the decisions, relationships and authority you inhabit.

That recognition is not a failure of leadership.

It is often where deeper leadership begins.

JAMES FOX · FOUNDER

Meet the Architect

Depth requires a practitioner who has entered it.

James Fox brings more than forty years of contemplative practice and a decade in the Jungian tradition to private work with senior leaders. His formation includes five years of personal analysis with James Hollis, PhD, together with four years of advanced study through the Jung Society of Washington, where he is also a former faculty member.

The work is direct, relational and exacting. It is designed for leaders whose outer authority is established—and who recognise that the next threshold is interior.

"Not a method. Not a brand. A practitioner — and the work of his life."

Programmes

Where to begin

There are two ways into the work. The Threshold™ offers a self-directed beginning for those ready to proceed independently. The Inner Authority™ is a sustained private engagement for those ready to work directly with James.

Both begin beneath the surface. The difference is the depth of accompaniment.

The Inner Authority™

Six Months · 16 Sessions · Private 1-to-1

The sustained practice. Sixteen private sessions with James Fox across six months, with an eight-module curriculum—the work that cannot be done alone.

The Threshold™

Self-Paced · 8 Modules · Foundational Practice

The entry programme. Eight self-directed modules that build the vocabulary, practices, and interior attention genuine depth work requires. Highly recommended as a prerequisite for private engagement.
